Job Summary
The CMM Programmer develops and improves manufacturing processes by interpreting Print specifications and works with the CNC programmers and Manufacturing Engineers & Quality Engineers to create and execute an effective and efficient inspection method plan. The candidate will also document and illustrate setups making operation of the CMM simple, intuitive & safeguarded while maintaining communication with Inspection ensuring all features are correctly measured and documented.
Responsibilities:
- Develop CMM programs using model-based definition and/or blueprints for Zeiss CMM's using Calypso software.
- Analyze drawings and model data to determine optimal measurement routine and work holding.
- Work with process experts to determine best control plan for each part.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Quality Engineering, and Shop Floor management in new program creation/release and program changes that improve quality and throughput.
- Working with Quality, define and document sample plans for each part.
- Create detailed tooling and setup sheet instructions for manufacturing.
- Create and maintain CMM program library ensuring revision control.
- Prove out new programs on shop floor.
- Format CMM reports to be beneficial for the machinists and inspectors.
- Fluent with inspection equipment.
- Able to validate first piece runs meet print.
- Must have a Lean manufacturing mindset in the shop including set-up time reduction, overall waste reduction, and reduced variation between machines and programs
- Create standards for CMM programs and train ME's, inspectors, and appropriate Machinists on methodology
- Functions as a valued team member providing technical guidance to manufacturing engineers who create routers

Perform machine operation to fabricate production parts
· Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
· Work to close tolerances using required gauges with proper inspection techniques.
· Follow Good Manufacturing Principles and safety rules.
· Inspect work using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other inspection equipment as required.
· Maintain accurate records/documentation related to quality, work in process, test results, measurements, labor, and special projects.
· Document data entry that will be used for process capability.
· Proactively communicate delays in project completion to management.
· Maintain and follow Safety guidelines and cleanliness of the Machine Shop.
· Maintain small tools, equipment, and machine shop supplies as needed.
- · Collaborate with others within the department and staff across the organization on Quality related activities that meet company standards
Qualifications & Requirements:
- 3 years minimum directly related experience working with CMM’s.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
Desired Characteristics & Attributes:
- Strong competence using off-line CMM programming software.
- Extensive knowledge of GD&T as well as aerospace specifications
- Familiarity with SolidWorks or other model-based CAD system
- Competency in metrology as well as ability to perform gage studies such as MSA & R&Rs
- Motivation and focus on assigned tasks.
- Excellent communication skills (MS Word, Excel & Outlook)
- 5 years minimum directly related experience working with CMM’s.
- Experience machining parts for aerospace, defense, power generation or medical industries
- Zeiss Calypso programming, 3+ years
- 2 or 4-year technical degree from an accredited university or technical college (AS or BS)
