Job Summary

The Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Programmer develops CNC programs and tooling for both Vertical and Horizontal machining centers. The Programmer produces set up sheets including part orientation and cutter selection. The position is part of the Machine Shop Operation and interacts across department functions and across functions within the Company.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create numerical control programs to control contour path machining of parts on CNC machine tools.
  • Analyze drawings, sketches, and design data of parts to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting.
  • Determine reference points and direction of machine cutting paths.
  • Compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part.
  • Use computer-assisted drafting software to show location of reference points and direction of cutting paths.
  • Write instruction sheets and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machine.
  • Revise machine programming to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
  • Observe operation of machine on trial run to prove programmed instructions.
  • Responsible for cleanliness, organization, and overall Machine Shop department appearance.

  • Become an independent employee able to analyze problems and formulate plans to overcome challenges and to get work done quickly with a high degree of quality.  Make sound and logical decisions and choose the appropriate courses of action based on the parameters of the situation at hand and to use continual improvement problem solving skills. 
  • Create an ongoing effort to improve the Company and the Machine Shop through personal action and by contributing ideas to support both the Department and Company’s ongoing improvement efforts.
  • Understand Mizuho OSI’s business objectives and the relationship between the Machine Shop and those objectives; to support and follow the Corporate Vision, Mission & Values Statements and to maintain the services and quality levels set by Mizuho OSI, and to continually enable Mizuho OSI to be a great place to work.
  • Understand, follow and support Mizuho OSI’s internal Quality System policies, procedures and work instructions including but not limited to applicable external regulations (21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 820 Quality System Regulations and applicable International Standards).

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Experience and education – as outlined below, per job level.
  • Must have fluent knowledge, experience and proficiency in 2 and 3 axis programming in Master Cam and/or Autodesk Fusion.  Fluent knowledge and understanding of 4 and 5 axis programming is preferred.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Good working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing required and able to work in both Metric and English units.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must have trouble shooting skills for tool deflection and chatter; able to maximize cutting speeds and feeds to prolong cutter life and reduce run time; able to use micrometers, depth gauges and calipers and have good fundamentals of plate inspection layout.
  • Must be willing to be trained in Six Sigma practices to obtain a White, Yellow and/or Green Belt according to Programmer Level.
  • Must be willing to work any scheduled shifts as appropriate and based on business needs.
  • Neat and professional appearance and outgoing people-oriented personality which conveys pride in working for Mizuho OSI and which is demonstrated with a ready smile and a willingness to assist others.
  • Excellent computer skills including operating Windows based personal computers, various office equipment and machines, and telephone system. Ability to efficiently and effectively use Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to clearly express oneself verbally and in writing in the English language (additional languages also preferred) using good grammar, vocabulary, eye contact.  Ability to communicate effectively with employees and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Excellent customer focus with a high sense of urgency. Ability to provide excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to function calmly in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities simultaneously. To be able to positively manage situations of a dynamic nature; to be able to modify plans, actions, and decisions in light of changing situations and circumstances while still meeting, or proposing modified, deadlines.
  • To respond sensitively to the needs and feelings of others regardless of position; to accept interpersonal differences, to maintain rapport, and to interact effectively with all levels of employees within the organization.

Salary:  $73,630.90 - $105,187.00 + Bonus
