Job Summary
The Controller is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the generation of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
This role provides direction and guidance to exempt and non-exempt staff. The Controller makes decisions which will turn programs established by senior management into operational plans and schedules, develops and communicates a strategic vision of Mizuho OSI for the Accounting Staff.
This role has direct supervision over Sr. Manager in Accounting and Sr. Manager in Credit and Collections, while also indirectly managing other Exempt and Non-exempt staff in Accounting Department.
Responsibilities:
- Understand, support, and follow the Corporate Vision, Mission & Values Statements.
- Support company goals and objectives.
- Understand, follow, and support Mizuho OSI's internal Quality System policies, procedures and work instructions including but not limited to applicable external regulations (21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 820 Quality System Regulations and applicable International Standards).
- Maintain and document accounting policies and procedures, and controls.
- Oversee the operations of the Accounting Department including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit and Collections, and Taxation. Develop and maintain an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
- Prepare and generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements that are accurate, complete, and timely.
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and year-end analyses as necessary to include capital investments, and contract negotiations for corporate insurance.
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
- Aggressively pursue cost improvements through process, procedure, and methods control.
- Coordinate and support external auditors for the annual financial audit serve as a liaison. Successful audit with clean opinion is required. Maintain internal control to ensure compliance with the company's financial goals and objectives.
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Evaluate performance, training needs, and assist in career development for the Accounting Department staff.
- Provide assigned exempt and non-exempt staff with guidance and leadership towards achieving departmental and company goals.
- Develop budget for Accounting Department and oversee the staff to meet organizational objectives. Ensure that Budget is set realistically and attained.
- Forecast future departmental or group needs including human and material resources and capital expenditures.
- Develop and or identify new work processes that will have broad applicability throughout the department.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with at least ten or more years of directly applicable experience. MBA with relevant experience preferred.
- Seven to ten years of management experience in the manufacturing and/or medical device industry is preferred.
- CPA is strongly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.
- Excellent computer skills, sound experience with Tier 1 ERP systems (SAP or Oracle is preferred).
- Knowledge of financial management best practices.
- Excellent knowledge of GAA.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- Ability to lead, motivate and develop employees.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate with all levels in the organization, including senior management.
- Demonstrated experience in driving expense reductions and strong negotiation skills.
- Ability to apply sound business judgment and strategic planning.
Annual salary - $133k - $170k
