Job Summary

The Mechanical Designer works with engineers, machinists, other designers, and Operations personnel to create complex electromechanical designs for new products.  Produces solid models, fabrication drawings, component specifications, and assembly drawings from verbal, written, or pictorial information input. The position solves mechanical design problems at the component through system level, makes computations and conducts tolerance studies as needed to complete designs. Conducts and documents testing utilizing existing test protocols or creates new ones as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Generate CAD models and drawings in accordance with company standards based on input and direction from engineers. Verify all work and document materials and quantities needed for products/components.
  • Design and develop mechanisms, drive trains, user interfaces, and mechanical and electrical packaging solutions appropriate for the project.
  • Anticipate problems in manufacturing, assembly, installation, and operations, ensure questions are resolved in the drawings produced.
  • Work closely with suppliers to optimize cost and lead times for parts.
  • At higher levels, assist the team in the planning, scheduling, costing, and coordination of internal and external resources of projects.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of concepts, designs, specifications, drawings, and processes consistent with QSR and FDA requirements.   Document risk assessment, verification, validation, test results, and analysis in accordance with FDA design control requirements.
  • At the more senior level, provide mechanical and technical expertise and creativity for products designs intended for both domestic and international markets.
  • Provide support for the resolution of product complaints and/or safety issues.
  • Work with project management, engineering, manufacturing, marketing, quality, and regulatory staff to coordinate pilot production of new products.
  • At higher levels, train and instruct other members of the department and the company, by passing along skills and information to assist them in their development.
  • Become an independent Team Member able to analyze problems and formulate plans to overcome challenges and to get work done quickly with a high degree of quality. Make sound and logical decisions and choose the appropriate courses of action based on the parameters of the situation at hand and use continual improvement problem solving skills.
  • Create an ongoing effort to improve the company and the R&D Department through personal action and by contributing creative ideas to support both the department and company’s ongoing improvement efforts.
  • Responsible for cleanliness, organization, and overall R&D department appearance.
  • Understand Mizuho OSI’s business objectives and the relationship between the Department and those objectives; support and follow the Corporate Vision, Mission & Values Statements, maintain the services and quality levels set by Mizuho OSI, and to continually enable Mizuho OSI to be a great place to work.
  • Understand, follow and support Mizuho OSI’s internal Quality System policies, procedures and work instructions including but not limited to applicable external regulations (21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 820 Quality System Regulations and applicable International Standards).

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • AA degree and 4-6+ YOE, or HS Diploma(or equivalent) and 8+ YOE
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply drafting principles such as datums, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of machine shop, foundry, and molding practices and material selection.
  • Fluency with a 3D solid modeling package, preferably Solid Works.
  • Excellent computer skills including operating Windows based personal computers, various office equipment and machines, and telephone system. Ability to efficiently and effectively use Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and occasionally Visio.
  • Ability to clearly express oneself verbally and in writing in the English language (additional languages also preferred) using good grammar, vocabulary, eye contact.  Ability to communicate effectively with Team Members and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner. Able to prepare business communications; have strong presentation, project and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic functions, create and reconcile reports, demonstrate strong analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer focus with a high sense of urgency. Ability to provide excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to function calmly in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities simultaneously. To be able to positively manage situations of a dynamic nature; to be able to modify plans, actions, and decisions in light of changing situations.

Salary range: $140,000- $170,000 DOE + annual potential bonus + comprehensive benefits package
