Job Summary

 

The Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for directing Team Leads and Team Members in accomplishing manufacturing responsibilities.  The Manufacturing Supervisor manages their team (manufacturing lines, cells, or areas) as an operational team with responsibility for accomplishing company goals and targets in accordance with company policies, manufacturing standards and methods, quality standards for safety, product quality, customer satisfaction, accuracy, productivity, cost reduction, housekeeping, efficiency, training, teamwork and morale. The Manufacturing Supervisor is also responsible for working cross functionally with other Mizuho OSI teams to optimize output and efficiency to ensure that company production and quality goals are achieved.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Function as a first-line supervisor over Team Leads and Team Members.
  • Understand Mizuho OSI’s business objectives and the relationship between the Manufacturing Department and those objectives; to support and follow the Corporate Vision, Mission & Values Statements and to maintain the services and quality levels set by Mizuho OSI.
  • Understand, follow and support Mizuho OSI’s internal Quality System policies, procedures and work instructions including but not limited to applicable external regulations (21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 820 Quality System Regulations and applicable International Standards).
  • Plan and coordinate hiring and placement of team members with the Manufacturing Manager.  Monitor and track staffing conditions, work hours and overtime, job rotation, and absenteeism.
  • Understand, execute, and ensure consistent compliance with all company rules, policies, and practices, and work closely with Human Resources to take appropriate corrective action when warranted, in accordance with the terms of the Mizuho OSI Employee Handbook.
  • Responsible for managing and appraising team member job performance and recommending corrective action.
  • Develop and maintain positive team member relations centered on mutual trust, dignity, respect, fairness, consistency, two-way communication and teamwork.
  • Provide direction and motivation to team members emphasizing safety, quality, efficiency, productivity, cost reduction, and morale.
  • Responsible for leading and managing the manufacturing activities of their assigned area, accomplishing department goals and objectives, and keeping on task with targets and implementation schedules.
  • Utilize Lean manufacturing methods and techniques to standardize current/new processes and methods, reduce process variation, identify waste, and methodically eliminate waste.
  • Develop standardized work procedures by designing and/or documenting the best work sequence for each process.
  • Direct the work of Team Leads and Team Members by assigning/re-assigning work tasks, and analyzing production requirements based on current status and production schedules.
  • Understand the essential job functions of Team Leads and Team Members, as necessary, to maintain efficient, stable, and continuous operations.
  • Monitor the flow of parts, materials, productivity, and quality including kanbans and inventory levels; take corrective action as needed.
  • Confirm that team members use the quality systems correctly.  Ensure quality and regulatory goals and standards are met and know how and when to escalate matters requiring additional attention.
  • Partner with the Quality department to initiate investigation and containment activities.
  • Troubleshoot daily quality, safety, and production issues.
  • Be proactive in predicting problems and finding innovative solutions to correct.
  • Evaluate and analyze problems involving machinery and equipment and coordinates repair of tools and machinery. Participate in frequent evaluation of machines, tools, equipment, etc.
  • Lead continuous improvement activity for their assigned area.
  • Participate in the setting of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets including safety, quality, productivity, scrap, etc. as a method of continuous improvement.
  • Maintain, monitor, and update department and KPI board and graphs, daily, and initiate continuous improvement activities.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and participate in safety, quality, productivity, and cost improvement projects.
  • Lead the implementation of team members’ ideas and suggestions and management directed initiatives.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Lead, perform, and/or participate in ergonomic exercises, 5S housekeeping, accident investigation, and safety audits and related activities.
  • Lead ergonomic assessments of team member work-stations and implement countermeasures and job rotation to improve long-term safe working conditions and team member well-being.
  • Maintain knowledge of procedures concerning Hazardous Waste, Spill Response, and Plant Security.
  • Monitor safety and health of team members to ensure their well-being.
  • Oversee all training of team members and assign experienced trainers to perform new team member training and cross training as needed.
  • Maintain training matrix for Team Leads and Team Members, assuring training is effective and corrects sub-standard performance.
  • Maintain, plan, and prepare department work instructions, as required.
  • Ensure further development of team members through performance evaluation, development of training plans, feedback and coaching.
  • Collect, record, and analyze information while maintaining documentation regarding the activities in the assigned area as defined by company policy, procedure, or practice.
  • Prepare business reports and spread sheets of required data.
  • Maintain specified quality system records and other files and logs of department/shift activities such as production, production problems, parts shortages, scrap, quality, maintenance, etc. (manual and computer) as required. Perform other various administrative duties.
  • Monitor and maintain team member time, attendance, and training records.
  • Through daily start of shift and communication meetings, keep team members informed on issues relevant to them and encourage two-way communication.
  • Maintain daily and/or frequent communication with upstream and downstream groups/areas and support departments to ensure efficient and stable operations in a team-based environment.

The duties of this job require the employee to stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat and to use hands to manipulate small/large objects and tools for long periods of time.  The employee is required to lift up to 45 pounds during the normal course of work. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Within the Manufacturing floor the employee may be exposed to sharp objects, tools, hot objects, adhesives, various testing equipment, isopropyl alcohol, soldering equipment, hi-pot testers and other equipment, etc.   The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.  The temperature in the production area varies dependent upon the temperature outside. 

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • HS diploma; minimum of three years supervisory experience in manufacturing/medical device environment.  Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing procedures, and understanding of manufacturing type work. Capital equipment production is preferred and knowledge of sewing anddie cutting of foam, fabrics, and other soft goods materials is a plus.
  • Experience using and maintaining production tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints and part drawings.
  • Ability to lead teams focusing on motivation, collaboration, planning, and problem solving to encourage engagement and achieve team results.
  • Experience working with Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
  • Knowledge of production control concepts and technical competence.
  • Understanding of quality systems and continuous improvement concepts.
  • Neat and professional appearance and outgoing people-oriented personality which conveys pride in working for Mizuho OSI and which is demonstrated with a ready smile and a willingness to assist others.
  • Good computer skills including operating Windows based personal computers, various office equipment and machines, and telephone system. Ability to efficiently and effectively use Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to clearly express oneself verbally in the English language (additional languages also preferred) using good grammar, vocabulary, eye contact, and friendly voice inflection with all employees. Ability to communicate effectively with employees and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.

Salary Range: $49.04 - $56.73 hourly DOE + potential annual bonus + comprehensive benefits package
