Job Summary

The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that production results are achieved in the most efficient manner while maintaining or improving the quality of the products produced under their direction. The Machine Shop Supervisor also recommends, implements and enforces the policies and procedures that meet the department’s short and long term goals as directed by Manufacturing Management.  The position leads, guides, mentors, motivates and engages the individuals assigned to their team.  The Machine Shop Supervisor is also responsible for working cross functionally with other Manufacturing, Materials, and R&D teams to optimize output and efficiencies and to ensure that the company production and quality goals are achieved.  Supervises Non-Exempt staff. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the activities of employees engaged in conventional and CNC machine shop processes by assigning, training, monitoring and reviewing their work.   
  • Assist in production planning and budgeting, as necessary. Implement approved plans and meet budget objectives. 
  • Generate production status reports and present basic analysis to management. 
  • Receive and prioritize job work orders to meet daily production schedules. 
  • Order or requisition required materials from the Materials purchasing group. 
  • Ensure that manufactured products are complete, meet all required procedural specifications and company standards, and are inspected by the Quality Control group. 
  • Facilitate training at all levels whether it is within a specific level of expertise or ensuring cross-training across other groups to effectively work as a team. 
  • Report machine breakdowns to maintenance department for immediate attention and follow-up to ensure timely repair.  
  • Proactively identify needs and allocate personnel based on priorities and ensure that employee cross-training plans are maintained to address current and future forecasts. 
  • Provide frequent and timely verbal feedback to team members, as well as document their performance in the annual Focal Review performance evaluation process. 
  • Proactively support and implement continuous improvement efforts in order to meet the department goals and objectives. 
  • Work closely with Human Resources to resolve employee relation activities, including hiring, on-boarding, training, performance management, coaching, disciplinary actions, leaves of absence, and separations from employment. 
  • Train employees on safety, good manufacturing standards and procedures; and work instructions. Ensure a safe work environment is provided and immediately investigate and resolve any hazards. 
  • Monitor employee time records and ensure employees are paid accurately and in compliance with payroll procedures and legal requirements. 
  • Communicate openly, clearly, proactively, and positively to inform and engage employees in a multicultural environment. 
  • Ask questions and actively listen to the needs of the Machine Shop department’s customers; consider the impact of the Machine shop on the other departments and work to resolve and follow through to correct customer service problems promptly. 
  • Mentor and develop employees giving timely and constructive feedback, explaining rationale and thought process to help employees improve their skills. 
  • Solicit ideas and opinions; empower employees and recognize their positive contributions. 
  • Responsible for cleanliness, organization, and overall Machine Shop appearance. 
  • Strive to become an independent employee able to analyze problems and formulate plans to overcome challenges and to get work done quickly with a high degree of quality. To make sound and logical decisions and to choose the appropriate courses of action based on the parameters of the situation at hand and to use continual improvement problem solving skills. 
  • Help create an ongoing effort to improve the Company and the Machine Shop through personal action and by contributing ideas to support both the Department and Company’s ongoing improvement efforts. 
  • To understand Mizuho OSI’s business objectives and the relationship between the Department and those objectives; to support and follow the Corporate Vision, Mission & Values Statements, to maintain the services and quality levels set by Mizuho OSI, and to continually enable Mizuho OSI to be a great place to work. 
  • To understand, follow and support Mizuho OSI’s internal Quality System policies, procedures and work instructions including but not limited to applicable external regulations (21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 820 Quality System Regulations and applicable International Standards).  

 

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Experience and education – as outlined below, per job level.
  • Knowledge of machine shop procedures, machine tool setup and operating techniques, and production machining methods. 
  • Experience using and maintaining production tools and equipment. 
  • Ability to read blueprints and part drawings. 
  • Experience working with Material Requirements Planning (MRP).  
  • Knowledge of production control concepts and technical competence. 
  • Ability to lead teams focusing on motivation, collaboration, planning, and problem solving to encourage engagement and achieve team results. 
  • Understanding of quality systems and continuous improvement concepts. 
  • Neat and professional appearance and outgoing people oriented personality which conveys pride in working for Mizuho OSI and which is demonstrated with a ready smile and a willingness to assist others. 
  • Good computer skills including operating Windows based personal computers, various office equipment and machines, and telephone system. Ability to efficiently and effectively use Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to clearly express oneself verbally in the English language (additional languages also preferred) using good grammar, vocabulary, eye contact, and friendly voice inflection with all employees. Ability to communicate effectively with employees and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner. 
  • Excellent customer focus with a high sense of urgency. Ability to provide excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability to function calmly in a fast paced environment managing multiple priorities simultaneously. To be able to positively manage situations of a dynamic nature; to be able to modify plans, actions, and decisions in light of changing situations and circumstances while still meeting, or proposing modified, deadlines. 
  • Ability to clearly and effectively express oneself through written means, to properly use such technical factors as grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and correct spelling. To be able to prepare business letters, memorandums, and reports.  
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic functions, create and reconcile reports, demonstrate strong analytical skills, and attention to detail. 
  • To respond sensitively to the needs and feelings of others regardless of position; to accept interpersonal differences, to maintain rapport, and to interact effectively with all levels of employees within the organization. 
  • To be able to demonstrate an understanding, and the regular use of a time management process, which systematically structures one’s own work to provide for effective task performance and to plan and prioritize items to meet future demands.

Salary:  $34.40 per hour - $49.14 per hour
